Service Project with the NU Student Veterans Council

Service Project with the NU Student Veterans Council – Need your help!

The NU Student Veterans Council has reached out to us to see if Post #1819 would help them with a service project to benefit The Veterans’ Place in Northfield. For those not familiar, The Veterans’ Place is a transitional housing facility combined with assistive services for Homeless Veterans in Central Vermont.  More information at:
http://www.vermontveteransplace.org/

The NU Student Veterans Council has coordinated with the Veteran’s Place staff to determine if there was a specific need, and has identified the need for 12 pairs of winter boots for the residents vets. They have the quantities and exact sizes needed and will be ready to order the boots soon.

The Post #1819 Executive Committee discussed this and has committed to help fund this project with the goal of raising $350. We are looking for members who are willing to donate to this project. A donation of just $30 will buy the boots and cover the shipping & handling for one veteran.

This project is accomplishing a couple of things for which Post #1819 was formed:
Assisting local veterans in need
Working with NU student veterans.

Though our part for this project is to assist with the funding, it is also our opportunity to start long term relationship with the NU Student Veterans Council and to team with them to accomplish even more. With our membership scattered across the country and world, having allies “on the ground” where we need them in order to accomplish a local task or goal is critical to our being able to actually get things done. And that is exactly how this project will work.

For those willing to donate to this project, please respond to this e-mail to let me know how much you can pledge, and then send a check made out to “Post #1819”, with “Boots Project” in the memo line. Please mail it directly to me at the address below.

As always, Thank-you for your service.
